Fifty-five employees of Frymaster, LLC, an Enodis company, volunteered at the 12th Annual Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport community service event on May 17. The team took on three of the total 50 houses that were painted, including the home of a former Frymaster employee, where volunteers additionally installed shutters and handrails; replaced a hot water heater; removed tree limbs, weeds and bricks; and created flower beds.

“We initially became involved with Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport with our corporate philosophy of positive community involvement; we return year after year because we see the difference a freshly painted house can make to a homeowner who doesn’t have the means for renovations on his or her own,” said Una Palmer, director of human resources at Frymaster. “This year’s experience was especially meaningful as we had the opportunity to help one of our own—a former Frymaster employee.”

In the company’s eight years of involvement with Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport, Frymaster employees have painted nearly 20 houses. For their 2008 efforts, they were awarded the Willie J.C. Critton Award, a team spirit prize honoring the team who—in addition to painting—is most creative in their beautification efforts. 

  “While it’s an honor to have received the team spirit award, the true pride existed in the end result of everyone’s efforts,” said Palmer.

Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport is an annual community service initiative coordinated by the city’s Community Development Division. Each spring, Paint Your Heart Out volunteers aid elderly, disabled, and low-income Shreveport residents by painting the exteriors of their homes.
