Frymaster's Industry-Leading "Green" Fryer Now Available In Gas Model

May 15th, 2008

Industry Leader Earns Top Energy Efficiency Rating, Also Promotes Fit Frying

SHREVEPORT, La. – Frymaster, LLC’s new gas or electric Protector™ fryer is made of stainless steel, but its heart is green.

The most environmentally-friendly fryer on the market, the award-winning Protector offers green benefits ranging from reduced oil waste to using less energy to operate –  it can even promote foodservice customers’ better health in the process. And now this ultra high-performance fryer is available in a gas model, joining the electric model unveiled last year.

Gas or electric, the 30-pound Protector offers the same production capacity as its 50-pound competitors, yet takes 40 percent less oil to fill. That also means there is less oil requiring disposal.  The Protector’s savings are compounded by high-technology features that take the guesswork out of oil management, protecting oil quality and maximizing oil life up to four weeks or more. Those features include automatic oil replenishment technology aptly named Oil AttendantTM, as well as Frymaster’s renowned, patented FootPrint PRO® filtration system and patented swing-up heating elements.

Frymaster estimates that the Protector saves over 50 percent in oil costs annually compared to its larger frypot competitors, thereby saving operators a significant amount in oil costs.

The Protector is also among the most energy efficient fryers on the market, offering substantial energy savings over traditional 50-pound frypots. The gas Protector earned a federal ENERGY STAR® rating of 56.4 percent, near the top of its class among gas fryers, while the electric protector earned a class-leading 85.6 percent energy efficiency rating.

“The Protector uses less oil and energy, yet offers the same frying capacity and produces the same high quality foods as frypots almost twice its size,” said Brenda Fried, vice president of marketing for Frymaster, an Enodis plc company. “When you also consider its many labor-saving features, this fryer is an all-around smart buy, whether your corporate title is chief financial officer or chief sustainability officer.”

The Protector’s innovations have been noticed by the foodservice industry, and the awards are mounting up. It earned a coveted 2008 Kitchen Innovations™ (KI) award from the National Restaurant Association earlier this year, one of only 25 equipment innovations to earn a 2008 KI award. The Electric Foodservice Council awarded the Protector its “Innovation of the Year” award in November 2007.

The Protector’s oil savings and improved oil quality benefits were documented in independent research by ESCA Associates Inc., Glen Mills, Pa.

The Protector reduces labor costs and safeguards workers by extending oil life to reduce the frequency of oil changes, and by automating time-consuming, messy and potentially dangerous tasks related to manually refilling the frypot.

Health-minded operators can leverage the oil and energy cost savings to underwrite the transition to healthier, yet higher-cost, trans fat-free oils, Fried also emphasized.

“The Protector is healthier for the environment, customers, workers and the bottom line,” she noted, “That’s something of which we can all be proud.”
