SHREVEPORT, La. – Need help delivering the delicious fried foods diners crave, while also meeting demands for healthier menu offerings? The new Fit Frying Premier Partnership can lend a hand. Made up of nonprofit and for-profit foodservice companies, the partnership was formed to guide and support industry-wide healthier frying efforts. Its mission is to be the first-stop resource for foodservice operators on issues related to frying, and specifically how to incorporate healthier fried foods into menus. The group seeks to educate and inform operators on a broad range of topics to help them ensure that fried foods deliver maximum taste while being as health conscious as possible. The partnership’s founding premier partners are from across the foodservice supply chain: fryer equipment manufacturer Frymaster LLC, the edible oils company Bunge Oils, North America's premier supplier of frozen potato, appetizer and vegetable products ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston; and supporting partners Omega-9 Oils developer Dow AgroSciences and nonprofits The Soyfoods Council and The Idaho Potato Commission. “We know there’s a tremendous information and education gap related to dietary fats and frying best practices in the marketplace at this time,” said Frymaster’s vice president of marketing Brenda Fried. “The Fit Frying Partnership wants to help close that gap, for the better health of consumers and the industry that feeds them.” The group will primarily use Internet-based tools to carry its message; the partners will focus first on the partnership’s website, www.fitfrying.com. The site includes best practices for equipment selection, oil selection including details on popular omega-rich oils, food selection, and fry station management. A U.S. map that identifies trans fat-free legislation activity and the “News” section will be updated weekly. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to opt-in to periodic Fit Frying E-Lerts that will be utilized to communicate new information regarding healthier frying and issues related to frying. The partners will also take their message to operators and influencers through industry trade shows. Look for the www.FitFrying.com logo on partners’ marketing collateral and signage. The group will target operators, as well as key operator infuencers including the trade media, to help ultimately reach consumers with a healthier frying message. “With our knowledge and experience, we are in a unique position to advise on the customer-pleasing potential for healthier frying – and be cost effective, too,” said The Soyfoods Council executive director Linda Funk. “We also know we can do more together, supporting a common goal, than any one of us could ever have on our own.” About the Partnership The Fit Frying Partnership is a collaborative effort of nonprofit and for-profit companies formed to guide industry-wide healthier frying efforts.
